Day twenty - two
I took a walk around to the local temple today to see where it was. Made the mistake of not crossing the busy main road at the traffic lights and was too scared to cross without them further down opposite the temple gates. Silly me. I will go tomorrow with Heidi and do the sensible thing. At least I know where it is.
Walked home hot and tired.
Wrote and did ancestry when I got back. Heidi let me know that we would be having dinner with her boss and his wife and would be revisiting the Farm to Table restaurant which was very nice. We had a pleasant evening chatting and eating. I had the same aubergine wrap that I had eaten last time we visited. Met the boss and his wife and it turns out that she remembered me from the high school carpark at the school our daughters attended at the same time. We also worked at the same hospital for years on night duty and lived in the same suburb. She also worked at a G.P. not far from me. What a small world. We had to travel all the way to Cambodia to catch up. After a pleasant evening, we walked home as our hotel was not too far away. When we got home we put on Season five of Grace and Frankie.

Day Twenty. Day in.
Woke up at six-thirty when Heidi got up but was tired so did not walk her to work as usual. I had breakfast when she left and watched the movie 9/11 which of course was sad and tragic. I lay on the bed and gradually felt better after feeling sick in the night. Did some candy crush and Instagram and enjoyed myself. Got a Viber text from Heidi at lunchtime to tell me that she had been to a restaurant with her co-workers and ate duck. Sat outside in the outdoor bar area and did some work in the afternoon. For dinner, we stayed in and had a noodle soup each. So nice to sit by the pool and eat. After dinner, we watched the movie Lady Bird which we enjoyed. Early night to follow.
Day Nineteen
Walked Heidi to work, then ventured on to the supermarket for a good look around. There was a small counter to the left as you walked in that was the pharmacy. You can get prescription drugs there over the counter without a prescription. So easy. I bought vegemite and water biscuits for Heidi to take to work for her co-workers to give it a try. A good taste test to see what they think of it. No one has tried it there so this will be interesting.
Came home to blog and watched Ratatouille on Fox movies. Will work later. After all, am on holiday! So lazy. Later did a mix of genealogy and candy crush. I then watched another movie called Red Sparrow which I enjoyed. Sat outside in the afternoon working.
Heidi came home after five and we sat by the pool and had a cocktail. We then walked down the street to look for a restaurant for dinner and came across The Dessert Bar on a nearby corner opposite the supermarket where they also served meals. It was also air-conditioned, an added bonus. The decor was of a rustic brown. We settled on chicken dipped in chilli soy sauce with salad and creamy seafood pasta that was wonderful.
Came home and did some ancestry. We did not watch a movie as Heidi was tired so we went to bed to read. Awake at three am nauseated but the feeling abated and I went back to sleep.
Day Eighteen.
Had a lazy morning and got up at ten am. We walked to the local market at the end of the street. Bought some funny hair clips with cockroaches, geckos and crocodiles for four dollars the lot.
We then walked to the visa office to extend our visas and then to lunch at "Farm to Table" a lovely outdoor restaurant where we split an eggplant wrap with sweet potato chips and salad.
Came back to the hotel very hot and sweaty. We changed into our bathers and plunged into the cool pool. Did our laps and exercises and then sat by the pool playing candy crush and blogging. So much fun.
We ate dinner at the hotel as we were tired. We ate noodle soup and vegetarian lasagne. Showered after tea and went to bed to watch the movie "Colette" with Keira Knightly. Well worth the watch and a great performance by Keira. It was better than I expected it would be and a true story.

Day Seventeen. The Royal Palace.
We spent the morning in bed relaxing. A nice day by the pool. I put candy crush on my phone which was a big mistake! Did some genealogy at the outside table while eating some bruschettas with tomatoes and soup for lunch followed by a little snooze? At three thirty we went to the city to the Royal Palace.
The Royal Palace.
The Royal Palace cost us ten dollars each to enter but well worth it. What a spectacular place with its stunning manicured gardens, pergolas, stupas, and rooflines. We took so many photos as just too beautiful to resist.
We saw amazing Buddhist murals on walls stretching into the distance around a courtyard with plants in the shade. What a lovely way to spend the late afternoon strolling through the temples as the sun went down. The tiles and roof lines made a spectacular vista for us to see.
Outside the Palace, we walked along the cordoned-off Boulevard and on to a grassy area by the Mekong river. It was packed with Cambodian families eating and enjoying the day off. Hawkers selling their wares in baskets atop their heads made a perfect photo opportunity. They sold everything from food to toys. We continued walking along the busy street crammed with buses and tuk-tuks. Heidi found the hotel she had stayed in previously on another trip to Cambodia. It has changed and no longer has the restaurant downstairs. We called in at the Grand River Restaurant for drinks and dinner. We each got a pina colada and afterwards shared a prawn pad Thai and seafood with vegetables and rice. Both were delicious. The food there was fabulous and inexpensive.
Took a tuk-tuk back to the hotel for showers and into bed early. We watched "The Meg" which was scary and actually enjoyable. Slept till eight in the morning.
