This wonderful drama is a war story which portrays the lives of four generations of women and their relationships with each other over the years.The grandmother Helga [Juliet Stevenson], has a very distant and strained relationship with her mother Traudi [Karin Bertling], which takes its toll on her daughter Beth [ Jodhi May].
