My expectations of the trip.

First of all I just hope that we remain well during the trip and without any injuries. We have had thorough checkups from the doctor and got flu shots, hepatitis immunisation and typhoid to go.
We are prepared with panadols, [for any pain] gastro stop [for diarrhoea] and stemetil [for nausea].
I am taking ankle supports for weak ankles.

You are never prepared for the magnificent scenery that awaits you and I am so looking forward to taking some amazing shots and returning with lots of photos and memories.
We both want to buy souvenirs to remind us of our journey and for gifts for friends.

Because I am doing a blog and also a book about my ancestry I am particularly interested in the towns that we visit especially the medieval ones and their architecture. We hope to visit graves and churches to find out more .
Shopping will be interesting and we are going to look in grocery stores, stocking up on sweets and chocolates that are foreign to us. We can eat them in our room at night while we watch a movie in bed. What fun!

The cruise is of course our major highlight so seeing the boat for the first time will be a thrill. Photo opportunity! We are anticipating that it will be comfortable with fabulous food [will do a blog on the food and also life on board ship]. The River Rhine itself will be spectacular with it's many castles along the way. We hope to enjoy a cocktail in the lounge when we return from a hard day sight seeing and put our feet up. At least we won't have to cook dinner. They have some special night's on board with entertainment to enjoy.

Museums and art galleries will be a delight. We hope to see Van Gogh, Rembrant, Durer, and Klimt. Would also love to see my favourite Varmeer. I have the Girl with the Pearl Earring on my wall and enjoy her every day. I grew up with her, as my grandmother also had a painting in the spare room where I slept.

All in all we are excited and every day will be an adventure. We hope to enjoy every part  as it is a huge adventure to be treasured with a lifetime of memories.
