The Flight.

Above the roar of the engines we settle back in our seats with our seat belts firmly fastened preparing for take off. Nothing is so exhilarating than the acceleration as the plane races down the runway and lifts into the sky making everything beneath look like a miniature village. We are at last on our way to complete the final stage of our ancestral journey and excitement is in the air. My daughter settles beside me investigating the screen for the movies that she will watch over the flight. We have just been served a peach and coconut drink that is so refreshing and hits the spot nicely. I am going to settle back with writing and a new book to pass the time. Word search is always a particular favourite of mine as are crosswords so I had bought a book of puzzles to keep me happy. Up, up and away!

Our first destination is two weeks in Hong Kong and we plan to do some shopping and have a good look around. We have both had the flu for the last week and feeling weak with sore eyes and headaches. At least we can rest on the plane and in our hotel room when we get there. Our trip to the airport on the sky bus was comfortable and took two hours. When we arrived the queue was long but moved along rapidly. No sooner had we offloaded our suitcases it was time to go through into international to find our boarding gate. Of course I had to be fully scanned as I wear a silver bracelet that cannot be removed and sets the whole scanner off. We only had time to sit in the waiting area eating some fruit salad for breakfast before boarding our flight. Once on board we find the seats have become smaller or our bums have become bigger? I suspect the latter. On board the Qantas flight we are given a blanket and pillow. We are also given a bottle of water to keep us hydrated. Heidi has the window seat and we have the Tibetan shawl used as a blanket and I have my neck support memory foam pillow which is just wonderful. So for now I am going to sit back, have a good read and enjoy the ride. The captain has just announced to prepare for bumps and fasten our seat belts. We have reset our watches. Our trip is going to take eight and a half hours.
