Amsterdam

Our taxi driver is fantastic. A young guy who told us lots of tips for Amsterdam and where to go to get things and what to do. Our hotel room is a closet. A double bed in the corner and no room anywhere. The bathroom is a toilet and tiny shower. Very difficult to do anything. But no worries as we will be out and about. We discovered a gorgeous little supermarket that sold lots of cheese. We bought bread, cheese chips, and of course chocolate. What else would you need? We purchased breakfast while we were there of diced fresh fruit and yogurt.

That night getting hungry for the first time we stumbled upon a beautiful old pancake parlour so in we went. Our first meal in the Netherlands was poffertjes and a huge crepe with strawberries and fresh cream. The meal was simply heaven and the waitress was fun.

We had a good night so strolled back to the hotel and had an early night as nothing on TV. We fell asleep at eight thirty sleeping through till six thirty. Eating breakfast and then of all things doing our washing by hand - the last thing we wanted to do on holiday. It was way too expensive to have it done for us and by way too expensive I mean one hundred and eighty dollars Australian for a weeks worth. We could spend that sort of money better elsewhere. We now had knickers, bras and socks strung about our room closet like Christmas decorations. At reception we acquired tickets for the Rijksmuseum and for a visit to the tulips at Keukenhof.
