The McLelland Art Gallery

We are fortunate enough to live around the corner from the McLelland Art Gallery [about 5-10 minute walk]. This space features a huge outside area [the sculpture park] to walk around in and a small art gallery that has a cafe and gift shop. Situated in Langwarrin Victoria, four kilometres from Frankston, it is a hidden treasure of natural surroundings with plentiful bird life and brilliant sculptures.

One day I even saw a turtle swimming in the lake. When he spotted us he dived out of sight.

The art gallery holds exhibitions for local artists to display their works and it is an inviting and innovative space. You can book a guided tour with a volunteer who drives you around the park in a golf buggy, giving information about the sculptures. If you want to have a relaxing day this is the place. The cafe is a contemporary space with a view of the lake. You can have lunch with a glass of wine or a cup of tea. As an alternative to the cafe, a family can enjoy a picnic on the grounds of the sculpture park. There are many beautiful places to sit on sunny days. One year the gallery put on a outdoor Wind in the Willows pantomime and you followed the characters around the lake as the story unfolded in front or you. I love visiting the park and come home feeling refreshed and invigorated. A must visit for all ages [wheelchair friendly].
