Best Days On The Trip.

Here are some of the highlights and favourite days on our trip. There were many, as every day was wonderful but I have selected my favourites.

Hashtag Amsterdam.

For many reasons this was a favourite. Wandering the streets was interesting and Vondel Park a delight. It was quieter in the park and you could relax and people watch. The food was excellent and the people friendly and helpful. Attractions like the Rikjs Museum were amazing and you could spend so much time just looking at the treasures contained within. It was easy to get around and our small cramped hotel room was the funniest and we actually enjoyed it. Out on the canals sightseeing was fun and interesting. To see the old narrow buildings and streets with their many bikes was amazing. I loved the house boats moored to the sides of the canals and learning about them was interesting and informative. We had a great time in Amsterdam and will not forget our experience.

Wurzburg/Rothenburg Day. Falconia.

This was a huge day with so much to see and a lot of walking.

We started the day at the Wurzburg Palace, a baroque palace and Court garden with its terracing.  We wandered around the gardens taking photos and admiring the views. A lovely way to spend the morning. Our guide then took us into the city center. We wandered the streets then went to see the old main bridge.

Our tour was then over so we went back for lunch on the boat ready for the afternoon .

An afternoon in Rothenburg,  approximately an hour from Wurzburg. It is one of the best preserved  medieval cities in Germany and one of the most picturesque. It is surrounded by its old city wall which you can walk on. The town itself is so quaint and pretty. You think that you are in a fairy story. In fact parts of Beauty and the Beast were filmed there and Belle's house is modelled off one of the houses there. We spent the afternoon looking at the shops and buying some souvenirs. We bought our adelweiss jewellery here, which was a thrill. We visited the torture museum which was not cheerful to say the least. It was pretty horrible. Exhausted we returned to the boat for an early night, tired but happy.

Kuekenhof -The Tulip Farm

Situated to the south of Amsterdam this is the most wonderful place. As a child I had a love for anything Dutch and in particular my favourite flower was the tulip. So this place was absolute heaven for me. I could not get over the array of colour and the plethora of tulips that greeted us as soon as we walked in the entrance. We walked around for hours and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. It certainly makes you happy and puts a smile on your face. Would be happy to go again.

Bremen Day.

Although cold and crisp this was a special day. It was the one we felt connected us to our ancestors as we walked in their path. It was an amazing journey to have taken. We loved the windmill under the floral embankment with the river flowing past. We loved the bronze pigs in the shopping walkway. We loved the market place that brought everything together. The buildings were a sight to behold and so old and took you back years.  I have never been in such a truly wonderful place. I will never forget it. We now have a photo on our dining room wall that we look at and smile. The Schnoor area was amazing and old and incredibly interesting. Having a cup of tea in one of its many cafes was fun and exploring the whole area was fantastic. On the way back we enjoyed the best chips of my life served with sour cream and ketchup. They did not last very long. Would love to return to this marvellous place.

The Rhine Gorge

Enjoying being on the boat and watching the Rhine Gorge go by with its many castles and villages. Having a cup of tea and piece of cake in the luxury of the lounge. Very special.

Budapest by Night.

Wine on the top deck as you float down the Danube into the lights of Budapest on a warm balmy night wrapped in a shawl.  Nirvana.
