Vienna

Full tour on the bus today around Vienna with some walking thrown in. Walked the streets with the guide and into the cathederal.

Back on the bus and off to the Nactmarkt which was wonderful. Row upon row of food stalls , souvenirs and eateries. Very fascinating and lots of fun. We were allowed to sample local delicacies such as apricot pancakes, cheese on apple slices with a delicious chutney sauce and then washed it down with a glass of red. Then the tour was over.

We bought some Pad Thai noodles for lunch as we planned to have the afternoon free in Vienna. The busdropped us at the Albertina Art Gallery where we planned to spend the afternoon. Before we began we decided to get a coffee to perk us up . Over the road was the Mozart Cafe which looked a delight so off we headed. Taking a table outside so we could enjoy the passing traffic we ordered a coffee and chai with a large piece of Apfelstreudel which was delicious. We sat and soaked up the ambience of Vienna. It was just lovely.

Spent the afternoon at the Albertina Art Gallery. Many famous painters work on display such as Monet, Rodin, Chegal, Klimt and Picasso. Heidi was delighted that her favourite artist Egon Schiele had an exhibition on at the gallery and there was plenty of his work on show and a lot about the artist himself. A very interesting character indeed.

Bus back to boat for dinner. Some sort of weird potato noodles with red cabbage sauerkraut. Heidi had a huge schnitzel with potatoes and mixed veges in gravy which was flavoursome  and she thoroughly enjoyed it all.  In fact she said that it was her favourite meal on board. After tea we sat in the lounge with Robyn and Judy who were great fun. We were all very chatty and we sat in the front of the boat watching the sun go down.

Next day off to Schonbrunn Palace.
