Off to Melk Abbey

Up for 0900 start. Off to Melk Abbey today. Run by Benedictine monks and of the baroque style with high painted ceilings. Lots of gold everywhere. It had the most amazing library. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take any photos so I will put a link in below for further information. In the chapel there were skeletons reclining in glass sarcophogus. Could have done without looking at these. A bit ghoulish for me but Heidi loved them. Spent the morning walking round with our guide.

Very informative then back on the bus to the boat. Heidi took a photo of me looking out of our room on the boat on her return as she came later.

After lunch of fish and chips and rum and raisin ice cream in the lounge we go up on the roof deck for a commentary by Gunther of scenic Austria. It is a beautiful sunny day of 18 degrees . Feeling good in the sunny weather. We sail gracefully down the Danube through the Unesco area or the river. Incredibly scenic with ruins, lots of villages with churches.

Arrive in Durnstein with its blue spire at two thirty.

Some people go into town . I have a lie down and read. Internet reception very poor today. Heidi has a walk into the village and returns with a gorgeous gold Klimt scarf and make up bag for me for a surprise . How lovely and I am thrilled. Will wear the scarf to the Captains dinner. I watch 'Along Came Polly' till five thirty. Free drinks in the lounge tonight from Gunther as he gives his port talk about Vienna. Dinner of pea soup and caesar salad with chicken. Sat in the lounge afterwards with a cup of tea and talked to the gentlemen from the room opposite ours. It turns out that they live in Seaford which is five minutes away from us at home. We even use the same Aldi. What a coincidence. It certainly is a small world. Went to bed afterwards to read, write and You tube. Vienna tomorrow so big day ahead.
