Regensberg

Another early breakfast . Had it with Gunther. Toast and lively mushrooms and a hot cup of green tea. Bus awaits us to take us to Regensberg. The river is as calm as a mill pond and there is a bridge not far from where we have docked.

It is lovely to see the river so peaceful. The waiters are all wearing blue and white bandanas today due to us being in Bavaria today. Hope to do some shopping today and sit in a cafe for a while. Still want to purchase a Bavarian wooden carved bear and a soft bear in a dirndl. It will be fun looking.

Our tour of Regensberg.

Our tour guide was a lovely lady who was due to have her baby in a months time. She took us to St. Peters Cathedral but went inside later as she was not allowed to talk inside.

We toured the old medieval part with its narrow streets with their sandstone towers. Visited the courtyard of a medieval merchant's house which is now students quarters.

Saw the statue of Don Juan, the illegitimate son of Barbara and Charles V. We are to meet at the statue at the end of the tour.

After the tour was over we took off on our own to warm up and find a nice cafe to have a hot chocolate. Finding one we we ordered waffles with banana and nuttella and one with strawberries and cream. They were huge and we just managed to polish off half of them.

It was a Italian cafe . Nice and warm with colourful cushions scattered around on benches.

Rugs were supplied if you were cold. The staff friendly with no English. Toilets clean. When paying the bill had a funny conversation about where I was from. I tried to tell the waiter that I was from New Zealand and he thought it was America so I told him that I lived in Australia which he also thought was America. I came to the conclusion that a lot of Americans must visit Regensburg and left the cafe. Off walking in the afternoon.Visited the Dom . Huge high ceilings and loads of stained glass windows. No photos allowed inside. Visited souvenir shops and Heidi bought some postcards for her friends- kitch ones for a laugh. Went down by the river Danube where the oldest sausage kitchen stands.

Had three small sausages in a brotchen [breadroll] with sauerkraut [taken from a huge pot on the stove top].Very delicious. Took photos and walked around till pick up time at 1530 at the statue. An hour back on the bus to the boat which had made it under the bridge as the water had not risen any further.Greeted back on board with hot toddy. Could get used to this. Bavaria night tonight. Ate potato salad for dinner with eggs, zuccini, and tomato for main. Fresh fruit for dessert. After dinner it is Oomp pah pah night for entertainment Bavarian style.
