A Promise.

Directed by Patrice Leconte.

I stumbled across a wonderful movie on sbs on demand called A Promise (Drama,Romance). Set prior to WW1 in Germany, 1912, it tells the story of a young protege named Freidrich (Richard Madden) and his boss Herr Karl Hoffmeister (Alan Rickman) who guides him through business ventures at his steel factory. Karl who is in poor health has to work from home and this is where Freidrich meets and falls for Charlotte or Lotte, as she is known by her friends (Rebecca Hall), Karl's younger wife. This is a slow movie that gradually unfolds as the love affair between the two blossoms, interrupted by war. A promise is made and you will have to watch the movie to find out how it unfolds. I loved this movie and will definitely watch it again. A delight. Enjoy!
