The Mole Who Knew It Was None Of His Business
Written by Werner Holzwarth
This delightful book is one of my favourites. It tells the story of the little mole who sets out to find the culprit who left a poo on the his head. This book is so hilarious and great for child and adult alike. My daughter loved it and we would both laugh so much. The illustrations are fantastic. This book is a delight.
When The Wind Changed.
By Ruth Park.
Tells the story of the old wives tale, where if you pull a silly face the wind might change and you will stay that way forever. This book is hilarious and had us in stitches. The illustrations by Deborah Niland are fantastic and so funny.
Narnia
Written by C. S. Lewis.
This is a classic story that I started to read to read to my daughter on a family camping trip when she was three. I read it to her by portable light in the tent and she was spell bound. I have the movie and enjoy it a great deal on many occasions. The thought of going into the back of a wardrobe to find the snow covered land of Narnia was a thrill. Mr Tumnus is my favourite character in the story and the part with him having tea with Lucy is such a delight. The beavers are also admirable as is their lodge. As the story unfolds and the adventures begin it will have you wanting more the whole way.
Heidi
Written by Johanna Spyri
I loved this book so much that I called my only daughter Heidi. It is a name that takes me straight back to the alps where Heidi lived with her grand father and the goats. It started with a little golden book and grew from there.
The Tale of Two Bad Mice
By Beatrix Potter.
As a little girl I would love to look at the pictures in the dolls house and adored the two little mice that lived inside. Hunca Munca was a name I adored. The rhyme of it made the story come to life. I particularly liked the food that did not come off the plates but were extremely beautiful, and my favourite piece was the ham. The destruction that ensued is a great tale and skillfully told by Beatrix Potter.
The Twelve Dancing Princesses
Illustrated by Gordon Fitchett.
Told from the original story but this time the princesses are ducks with lips. This story tells the tale of where 12 princesses disappear to at night and how they ruin all their shoes. How are they found out and by who?
